We are absolutely honoured to introduce you to ๐๐๐๐ข๐ docid.africapidalliance.org/list-docids , created within the The Africa PID Alliance , project, an open infrastructure programme of the TCC Africa-Training Centre in Communication.![]()
As we continue to refine it, we have created a version for individual and institutional users with the following successful PID integrations (Crossref, DataCite, RRIDs, ARK Keys, CSTR, Handles, RAiD, ORCID, ROR, Ringgold, ISNI, though not a PID , but Local Contexts.) As we go through Use Case integrations, we will be honored to continuously show you our collections. ![]()
โ๏ธ ๐ ๐๐จ ๐ฐ๐ก๐๐ญ ๐๐จ๐๐ฌ ๐๐๐๐ข๐ ๐๐จ?DOCiD is a federated, FAIR Digital Objectโaligned PID container that integrates local identifiers into global PID frameworks, enabling the provenance, discoverability, and governance of grey literature and other research outputsโincluding those produced by non-researchersโacross the full knowledge lifecycle.

As we continue refining DOCIDโข๏ธ, weโre engaging researchers whose work challenges how knowledge is created and preserved. Weโre pleased to be working with Dr. Cassandra Mark-Thiesen, a historian of African knowledge systems whose research interrogates the global structures shaping African Studies.![]()
Through her leadership of the African Knowledges and the History of Publication since the 1970s project at the University of Bayreuth, Dr. Mark-Thiesen explores the historical and structural inequalities that influence whose knowledge is visible and whose is not.![]()
Why this matters for DOCIDโข๏ธ![]()
Research on knowledge production often spans archives, publications, and collaborative networks across time and geography. DOCIDโข๏ธ supports this complexity by enabling the linking of diverse research outputs, assigning persistent identifiers, and strengthening recognition for scholars and contributors within evolving knowledge ecosystems.![]()

๐ขNew Partnership Announcement!!
The Africa PID Alliance is excited to announce a new strategic partnership with African Library & Information Associations and Institutions - AfLIA.
Libraries and information professionals play a critical role in ensuring that African knowledge, research outputs, traditional knowledge, and cultural heritage, is discoverable, connected, and preserved.
Through this partnership, we are working together to strengthen the systems that support that mission.
Our collaboration will focus on two key areas:![]()
Outreach & Engagement โ Growing awareness of Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) and how they help connect the research ecosystem across institutions, researchers, and outputs.![]()
Capacity Building โ Supporting the AfLIA community with practical skills and tools to implement open PID infrastructure, including the Digital Object Container Identifier (DOCiDโข), to link research organizations, funding, datasets, software, and publications.![]()

The Africa PID Alliance is excited to share that our Project lead Ms. Joy Owango will be participating in the upcoming FAIR Digital Objects (FDO) Conference, where she will be presenting on:
โIntegrating the Digital Object Container Identifier (DOCiD) into the FDO Ecosystem:
FAIR and CARE Indigenous Knowledge and Cultural Heritage through Integrating and Interconnecting Distributed Systems using FDOs.โ
This session will explore how DOCiD, developed through the Africa PID Alliance, advances the FAIR Digital Object framework by enabling the integration of multiple persistent identifiers into a single, machine-actionable research object.
More importantly, the discussion will highlight how this approach supports:
โข Ethical stewardship, provenance, and governance of Indigenous Knowledge and Cultural Heritage
โข Alignment of FAIR and CARE principles in real-world research infrastructures
โข Interoperability across distributed systems to enable inclusive, globally connected research ecosystems
โข Africaโs leadership in shaping trusted, equitable, and AI-ready Open Science infrastructure
As the global research community continues to evolve toward interoperable and responsible data systems, it is critical that we build infrastructures that are not only technically robust, but also socially and ethically grounded.
We look forward to engaging with the FDO community and contributing to these important conversations.
