The Africa PID Alliance is partnering with the African Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AfLIA) to strengthen Africa’s open research infrastructure and ensure that the continent’s knowledge systems are more visible, connected, and accessible.
Libraries and information professionals play a critical role in this mission, ensuring that African research outputs, traditional knowledge, and cultural heritage are preserved and discoverable. This aligns directly with the Africa PID Alliance’s vision of building open, interoperable research infrastructure, powered by tools like our Digital Object Container Identifier (DOCiD™), which seamlessly links research organizations, funding, datasets, and publications.
Through this partnership, Africa PID Alliance and AfLIA aim to raise awareness of Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) across the research ecosystem and equip the AfLIA network with the skills and tools needed to implement PID infrastructure effectively.
“This partnership with AfLIA is about making African research and knowledge truly visible and connected,” said Joy Owango, Project Lead at Africa PID Alliance. “By equipping libraries and institutions with technologies like DOCiD™, we are building a research ecosystem where African knowledge can be leveraged locally and globally.”
“AfLIA is committed to placing the African Library sector at all intersections that promote the visibility and continuous long-term growth of African research and knowledge. This partnership, which is meant to build the capacity of African Library professionals in various strands of open research infrastructure is a welcome development.”Dr. Helena Asamoah-Hassan, AfLIA
Together, the organizations are taking a decisive step toward a more connected, visible, and sustainable African research landscape, making it easier for knowledge to be discovered, shared, and built upon both locally and globally.
