This strategic collaboration aims to develop and implement open, reliable, and accessible research infrastructure services that support the digitization and sharing of research outputs including local knowledge and patent metadata from Burkina Faso and the broader French-speaking sub-Saharan African region.
Speaking on the partnership, Joy Owango, the Africa PID Alliance project lead remarked;
“This partnership is about representation. Assigning persistent identifiers to African knowledge systems ensures they’re not only preserved but also acknowledged as critical contributions. This work creates space for Francophone Africa to lead in shaping open research infrastructure that reflects its linguistic, cultural, and intellectual diversity, ensuring that no region or language community is left behind in the digital knowledge economy.”
For Mr. Sabari Christian DAO, Director General of the National Museum of Burkina Faso (MNBF),
“This partnership represents a significant opportunity for our institution to contribute to the development of open research infrastructure services, as well as the digitization and dissemination of research results across Africa. It also marks an important milestone for the MNBF, which has been working for some time to embrace a modernization process aimed at improving the conservation and exhibition practices of its collections.
